When you use your Cooliea Cup for the first time, you should sanitize it in boiling water for 3 minutes (or use a sanitizer to disinfect it and then use clean water to wash it) . Moisturizing the cup can help to make the process smoother: lubricate the rim with water or a water-based lube (lubricant) before inserting it. You might be more comfortable practicing before your period starts if you feel squeamish about touching blood. In this case, use water as a lubricant.
How to insert your Cooliea Cup
If you have used tampons before, you should find it relatively easy to insert a menstrual cup. You can insert the cup while sitting, standing, or squatting. Spreading your legs will help to achieve a successful and comfortable insertion. There are different ways to fold your Cooliea Cup:
Follow these steps to insert a cup:
1. Wash your hands thoroughly using clean water and soap or a handwash.
2. Tightly fold the menstrual cup the way you want, holding it in one hand with the rim facing up. You can apply water or a water-based lube to the rim of the cup.
3. Insert the cup, rim up, into your vagina like you would a tampon without an applicator. It should sit a few inches below your cervix.
4. Once the cup is in your vagina, rotate it. It will spring open to create an airtight seal that prevents leaks.
You shouldn’t feel your Cooliea Cup if you’ve inserted the cup correctly. You should also be able to move, jump, sit, stand, and do other everyday activities without your cup falling out. If you find the stem pokes out, you can always trim it ( NOT while inserted).
